The 2\" mid-pipes crossover and flow into a 3\" exhaust section and full 3\" valved muffler. Surprisingly enough some E46's did come with a type of vacuum actuated mufflers which opened and closed the exhaust under certain rpm ranges, unfortunately by now the factory valve is damaged or the muffler no longer actuates. Although the factory valved muffler on E46's were great in theory, there was very little change in tone and was limited by your driving style.
