Unlike LSDs, which allow some slipping, this locker fully locks both wheels when needed, similar to pneumatic or electric lockers but without requiring external controls. Instead, it uses spring pins to automatically engage and disengage, enabling seamless on-road and off-road transitions.

How a lunchbox locker works:

This is a mechanical locker featuring square-cut side gears. When the differential is not under load the gears can separate to allowing them to rotate past each other in a mostly unlocked position offering regular operation. When the diff is put under load from on-throttle conditions the gears then are pressed together to lock both wheels for 100% engagement.

One thing to note: as a ratcheting locker, you may hear some noise during operation. This is entirely normal and simply part of the locker doing its job. For example, when switching from a left to a right turn in a parking lot, the gears settle into their next locked position. During left turns, the differential allows the inside and outside tires to move at different speeds while locking up when a wheel loses traction. After transitioning to a right-hand turn, the locker disengages and re-engages in the opposite direction to let the wheels function independently. When one wheel is rotating faster than the other you may or may not hear a ratcheting affect based on your hearing sensitivity or sound levels.
