Early generation 2.0T Gen3 engines rely on a single hose connection to the turbo inlet pipe to create a slight vacuum to draw out crankcase vapors. This vacuum source can be significantly affected by aftermarket turbo inlet pipes, leading to incorrect PCV diaphragm operation, which can exacerbate oil consumption and pressure issues.
The MK8 system (when used as a retrofit) introduces a second connection (the venturi hose) that connects to the turbocharger outlet. This secondary vacuum source is more effective at drawing out crankcase pressure, especially under high-load conditions. The venturi effect also helps ensure the PCV diaphragm stays properly closed under boost, maintaining better crankcase vacuum even when running aftermarket turbo inlet pipes, which are known to interfere with the effectiveness of the stock MK7 PCV.
The MK8 Golf R PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve offers several key benefits and design improvements over the MK7 version, making it a popular retrofit for MK7 GTI, Golf R, and 8V A3/S3 owners
The main benefits of the MK8 PCV system include:
Improved Reliability: The MK8 design is generally considered less prone to failure than the MK7 PCV system, especially in high-performance or tuned applications.
Better Crankcase Ventilation: It provides more robust crankcase pressure regulation, especially under boost, which is ideal for tuned engines or track use.
Reduced Oil Blow-By and Ingestion: The design improvements help to prevent oil vapor from entering the intake system more effectively, which reduces oil consumption and the potential for carbon buildup on the intake valves.
Boost Leak Prevention: The MK8 system is considered more robust under boost pressure, helping to eliminate annoying PCV-related boost leaks often found in highly tuned MK7 setups.
Unsure if this kit will work for you?
On an IS38-equipped vehicle, or if you would like to keep the original IS12/IS20 (Excluding the 2022+ Jetta GLI, and 2021-2023 Atlas/Altas Cross Sport) ES#3610622 would be required to do this upgrade, which is the 034Motorsport Turbo Muffler Delete With Test Ports. This turbo muffler allows you to add a Barb fitting to accommodate the dual PCV hose included in this upgrade kit
Customers with an IS20 that needs to be replaced, or looking to upgrade to an IS20 from an IS12, can purchase IS20 Turbo Part number 06K145689D. This would be the IS20 found on the 2022+ Jetta GLI, and 2021-2023 Atlas/Atlas Cross Sport, which uses the same dual-hose style PCV system found on the MK8/8Y Evo4 engines. For this reason, 06K145689D has an additional Port found on the muffler housing, which eliminates the need for the 034Motorsport turbo muffler delete
If 06K145689D is being used, the original turbo muffler is suggested. Aftermarket Muffler deletes would block off the flow to the port found on this turbo, which defeats the purpose of the upgrade.
